A PDF is the easiest way to send several pictures as one tidy document: receipts for an expense claim, photos of handwritten notes, a portfolio, or the pictures a landlord or insurer has asked for. The S-PDF JPG to PDF converter takes your images, puts them in the order you choose and places each one on its own page. It runs in any browser, so you can convert photos straight from the camera roll of your phone as easily as from a folder on your computer.

Despite the name, it isn't limited to JPG. PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and TIFF files work too, and you can mix formats in the same task. JPEG photos go into the PDF exactly as they are, byte for byte, so nothing is re-compressed and no quality is lost along the way.

How to convert JPG to PDF

  1. Add your images Drag photos onto the upload box or select them from your device. JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and TIFF are accepted, up to 10 files per task on the free plan.
  2. Put them in order Drag the thumbnails into the order you want the pages to appear. The first image becomes page 1.
  3. Choose the layout Set the orientation (Auto, Portrait or Landscape), the page size (Fit, A4 or US Letter) and the margin (No margin, Small or Big). Leave Merge all images into one PDF on for a single document, or switch it off to get one PDF per image.
  4. Convert and download Start the conversion and download your PDF. If you asked for one PDF per image, the files arrive together as a ZIP, and each one can also be downloaded on its own.

Why use S-PDF for JPG to PDF

Which page size, orientation and margin to pick

Page sizeWhat you getBest for
FitEach page is exactly the size of its imageViewing on screen, portfolios, photos with no white border
A4Images placed on standard A4 sheets (210 × 297 mm)Printing and official documents in most countries
US LetterImages placed on 8.5 × 11 inch sheetsPrinting and paperwork in the United States and Canada

Orientation: Auto chooses portrait or landscape to suit each image, which is right most of the time. Pick Portrait or Landscape when every page must face the same way, for example before printing double-sided.

Margin: No margin lets the picture fill the page. Small or Big add white space around it, which looks neater on paper and keeps the edges of the photo away from the strip most printers can't reach.

What happens to image quality

Decoding a photo and saving it again as a new JPEG loses a little detail every time it happens. S-PDF doesn't do that. A JPEG is copied into the PDF unchanged, so the photo inside the PDF is identical to the one you uploaded. PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and TIFF images are stored with lossless compression, so they aren't degraded either. Only two things are adjusted so the PDF looks right in every viewer:

  • Rotation. Phones often save a photo sideways and add an EXIF orientation tag telling apps how to display it. A converter that ignores the tag leaves the photo on its side; this one reads it and turns the picture upright on the page.
  • Transparency. Transparent areas of PNG, WebP or GIF images become white, matching the white page behind them.

Because nothing is re-compressed, a PDF made from full-resolution phone photos will be about as large as the photos combined. If it is too big to email, run the finished file through Compress PDF.

Related ways to build a PDF from pictures

  • Capturing paper documents? Scan to PDF lets you photograph pages with your device's camera and turn them into a PDF in one go.
  • Need images and existing PDFs in one file? Merge PDF lets you combine pictures and PDF documents in a single task.
  • Going the other way? PDF to JPG turns the pages of a PDF back into image files.

Tip: name or sort your photos before uploading, for example 01.jpg, 02.jpg, so they start out roughly in order and only need a few drags to finish.

Frequently asked questions

Is the JPG to PDF converter free?

Yes. You can convert up to 10 images and 50 MB per task, 5 times a day, with no signup and no watermark. Pro ($5 a month or $50 a year) allows 50 files and 500 MB per task, unlimited tasks under fair use, and no ads.

Does converting JPG to PDF reduce quality?

No. JPEG files are embedded byte-for-byte without re-compression, and PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and TIFF images are stored losslessly, so the pictures in the PDF match your originals.

How do I put several photos into one PDF?

Add all your images, drag them into order and leave Merge all images into one PDF switched on. Each image becomes one page of the same document.

Can I make a separate PDF for each image?

Yes. Switch off Merge all images into one PDF before converting. You get one PDF per image, delivered together as a ZIP, and each file can also be downloaded individually.

Will photos taken on my phone appear the right way up?

Yes. Phones record how the camera was held in the EXIF orientation tag, and the converter uses it to turn each photo upright on its page.

What happens to transparent PNG images?

Transparent areas become white, because the PDF page behind them is white. The rest of the image is stored without any loss.

Can I convert HEIC photos from an iPhone?

HEIC is not one of the accepted formats, which are JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and TIFF. On an iPhone you can set Settings > Camera > Formats to Most Compatible so new photos are saved as JPG, or export existing photos as JPEG before uploading.

Are my images kept private?

Images are uploaded over HTTPS, stored in a private folder that is not reachable from the web, never shared or reused, and deleted automatically one hour after your last action. The Delete my files now button removes them immediately.
