Phones have become where a lot of paperwork happens: a landlord emails a lease, a school asks for a signed form, a client wants last month's invoices "in one file, please". Installing an app for a one-off merge is overkill, and many PDF apps lock merging behind a subscription. The tool on this page works in Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Samsung Internet, and it was designed for touch screens first: big buttons, finger-friendly dragging, and arrow buttons for precise ordering.
How to merge PDFs on your phone
- Tap "Choose PDF files" On iPhone, choose Browse to open the Files app (including iCloud Drive, Google Drive or Dropbox if connected), or Photo Library to add photos. On Android, pick from Files, Downloads or Drive.
- Select several files On iPhone, tap Select in the top corner and tick each file. On Android, long-press the first file, then tap the others.
- Reorder with your finger Press and hold a thumbnail, then drag it into place — or tap the ◀ ▶ arrows under each file for precise moves.
- Merge and save Tap Merge PDF, then Download PDF. iPhone saves to Files → Downloads; Android saves to your Downloads folder.
iPhone and iPad tips
- Where's my download? Open the Files app → Browse → Downloads (on iCloud Drive or On My iPhone, depending on your Safari settings). You can change the location in Settings → Apps → Safari → Downloads.
- Photos are fine. When you pick photos in Safari, your iPhone normally hands them over as JPG, so they can be added as pages. If a photo is rejected, share it to Files first or set Camera → Formats → "Most Compatible".
- Built-in alternative: the Files app can combine PDFs too — select the files, tap the ⋯ button and choose Create PDF. It doesn't let you pick page ranges or reorder easily, which is where the tool above helps.
Android tips
- Files in Google Drive: in the picker, tap the ☰ menu and choose Drive. Files open straight from the cloud without downloading first.
- Finding the merged PDF: pull down the notification shade and tap the finished download, or open the Files app → Downloads.
- Scanned paper: scan with Google Drive (+ → Scan) or your phone's document scanner, save as PDF, then merge the scans here in the right order.
Making mobile merges smooth
Upload speed is usually the slowest part of merging on a phone, especially on mobile data. Files upload one after another as soon as you add them, so you can arrange the first ones while the rest are still uploading. On Wi-Fi, a few ordinary documents take seconds. For big scanned files, connect to Wi-Fi first, or see how to merge large PDF files efficiently.
Keep the browser tab open until the upload bars finish. If your phone locks or the tab reloads, just add the files again — nothing is lost on your device.
Frequently asked questions
Can I merge PDFs on iPhone without an app?
Yes. Open this page in Safari, tap Choose PDF files, select your documents from Files, put them in order and tap Merge PDF. No app install or account is needed.
How do I merge PDFs on Android for free?
Open this page in Chrome or any browser, add your PDFs from Files or Google Drive, arrange them and tap Merge PDF. The free plan covers 10 files and 50 MB per merge.
Where does the merged PDF go on my iPhone?
Safari saves it to the Downloads folder in the Files app. You can also tap Preview first and use the Share button to save it to Books, Files or send it directly.
Can I add photos from my camera roll?
Yes. Choose Photo Library in the picker. Each photo becomes a page in the merged PDF, in the position you choose.
Does it work on iPad and Android tablets?
Yes. On larger screens you can also drag files from the Files app straight onto the upload box.
Is it safe to merge personal documents on my phone?
Your files are sent over HTTPS, kept in a private folder and deleted automatically after an hour. Tap "Delete my files now" after downloading to remove them immediately.
